Michelle Suna, was born in New York City. She has been painting for close to four decades. An independent thinker, Suna expresses her heart and soul thought her paintbrush by creating magisterial landscape paintings with the bold colors, light and use of different textures, are a celebration of the environment and the beauty of nature. Suna is fascinated by nature’s pristine forms, and brings her personal view of it, which has been described as “abstract reality.” In describing her art, Suna states: “My works have always been about taking risks and exploration, in and around my collective expressions.” Her works come alive with color, texture and movement, achieved through the application of oil to canvas, all applied by brush. Some of her paintings incorporate sand in them to capture the beauty of the East End, where she lives, as well as a special resin which creates a multi-dimensional effect. Viewers are captivated by the unique ways that Suna captures the beauty of the world around her in an abstract way that is both evocative and introspective. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in New York City as well as in the Hamptons and her artwork is part of the collections of celebrities and well-known art patrons.

Michelle Suna studied art and communications at Syracuse University and interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She worked for the architect Richard Meier as well as night club legends Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell at The Palladium.

Suna drew national attention when her large work, “Incoming Storm over Sag Pond” was featured on the big screen in Will Smith’s 2005 movie “Hitch” and “Music & Lyrics,” the movie starring Hiugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, in 2007. Her “Verdant Poppy Field was sold at a Christie’s benefit dinner and auction for Asian Tsunami Relive and was chosen by the curator for the event’s image in 2004.

Like many well-known artists, Suna has been drawn to the East End for the beautiful light at different times of the day, during the changing seasons. Suna’s immersion in multi-media, combined with her passion for life, nature and art is seen through her large and highly diverse body of work. Participation in the world of professional offshore yacht racing offered Ms. Suna the opportunity to travel, to paint and photograph many places such as Brittany, France, Southern Ireland, Western Spain & Portugal, Switzerland & Germany. For the last 18 years, she has been living and working in Sag Harbor, on the East End of Long Island, producing many unique and meditative series of paintings and photographs, influenced by nature, history, the exquisite light and movements of the sea and landscapes of the region. Highly aware of preserving and protecting the environment, she is always planting in her garden filled with extraordinary water birds, lush evergreens and indigenous perennials, which overlooks the sunset upon Noyac Bay to Shelter Island.
